The Routan Boom is the next big crisis in our country…….

And Brooke Shields is here to tell you all about it.

In a series of ads wrapped in PSA’s skin from VW, Brooke takes the role of informer as she intervenes in the lives of these misguided souls. Souls that have been corrupted by German engineering, triple-stitched leather seating, a 30-gig entertainment system and flat-screen tvs. For shame.

ZM

P.S. Put your favorite or most despised Routan Boom, VW or car commercial in the comments.

I believe that this type of commercial should be banned, based on the fact that it promotes eugenics. Basically they are telling you there is no good reason to get pregnant/have kids. Tsk, Tsk.

Michael, you are a complete and utter moron.

This ad is disgusting and insulting. Brooke Shields, of all people, with her history of infertility and Post Partum Depression, should have been more sensitive to the effect this commercial would have on couples struggling with infertilty. It’s completely offensive, and VW should pull it from the airwaves immediately.

People take things way to seriously now-a-days. Its just an advertisement, if you don’t like it, then don’t buy VW.

The RoutonBoom.org website is a total misuse of the .org TLD.

    Heil Hitler.
This whole German VW bug thing is pretty horrific. I don’t want to hear a VW talking with a German accent, and I don’t want to see a woman talking about having babies for German engineering. It’s disgusting.

  1. I like a funny, satirical commercial as the next guy, but this commercial has been difficult for my wife and I. The first time we saw it, we had just days earlier suffered our third miscarriage in 4 years.

Do we need to lighten up? Maybe. But it sure doesn’t make me want to buy a VW.

    Peace!

One might argue that any promotional effort which drives folks to your website is valid, however, this commercial is stupid and lame.

yah um i think this commercial is great and if you don’t like what you see don’t watch it. it’s like anti smoking laws. just don’t put YOURSELF in that position which you don’t want to be in. it’s called freedom of speech, you naysaying people you

Oh my god…you have got to be kidding me. How could you -possibly- stretch this commercial so far as to talk about Germain accents, Hitler, and having babies for Germans?

Barbara: This was not only a rather huge hole to leap across for your….point…but a completely insane one. Are you even remotely aware of how many television shows, commercials, and the like, have more in common with the….point…you are attempting to make? Come on now….seriously.

Not to be insensitive or anything, Deering, but this is also a somewhat stupid thing to say. So many things out there could be so much more offensive to your situation that I just don’t understand why you’re allowing this particular one to get to you like that… Sorry for such an insensative thing to say…but…yeah.

For the general populace that seem to adore reiterating the “lame” and “Stupid” comments….:

Take a deep breath…. release it….. lift the remote…. get over it.

It is a commercial you cynical idiots. I don’t know about you but I have seen my fair share of even more “stupid” and “lame” things on television. This particular one ranks pretty low on such a scale.

    There we go…. =D

this advert should be pulled; it is rude and insensitive to those trying to have a baby shocking Brooke would even be the spokeswomen. I find it very upsetting!

Every time this moronic commercial comes on I ask myself how Brook and VW could make such a stupid commercial. Brook and VW must be desperate to air such blatant stupidity.

    • October 24th, 2008

    Barbara,

Saying a German accent is horrifying is pretty ignorant. German does not equal Hitler/Nazi. Sheesh. And for Pete’s sake, German engineering refers to the car not to eugenics or racial/genetic engineering. Man… .chill.

I think these commercials are great. I think it is pretty cool that Brooke Shields has such a good sense of humor.

    • Kate
    • October 26th, 2008

I think Brooke Shields knew what she was saying when she filmed the commercial. I think people will find a reason to complain about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Everyone wants to feel validated.

Given the fact that the entire concept for Volkswagon (“people’s car”) was developed by none other than Adolph Hitler (it never went into production because priorities were shifted in the late 30’s in Germany from car making to war making- but a prototype identical to the “bug” we all know was presented to Hitler as a gift), and that in the 1930’s “each day 10,000 babies were born just for German (human) engineering”, I find the whole concept for the ad campaign sick.

The Germans promoted and perfected the Science of Eugenics to promote the “master race” in the 1930’s. Here they are promoting it once again this time to promote car sales.

Given the VW’s tarnished history, the ad agency that came up with this campaign ought to be taught a history lesson.

And I damn sure won’t be driving a VW anytime soon!

Brooke should be ashamed of herself !!! This ad is degrading and insulting to the female gender. I wonder how much she was paid to look so stupid, she must really need the money ! You won’t see me in a VW any time soon.

    • October 28th, 2008

Oh my God!! Some of you people are way out there! It’s a COMMERCIAL! Why are you taking it so seriously? It’s nothing to give yourselves an aneurysm over. Like there’s nothing else to focus on out there! Come on! Lighten up! LOL!!

Please, do explain how this is “degrading and insulting to the female gender.”

    • nvsk
    • November 1st, 2008

She is just saying dont have babies for a routon – Have them for other reasons. What is degrading or insulting to the female gender? The newest one even talks about reverse vasectomy just to have babies so that they can have a reason to buy a routon. So how again is it degrading to women?

Chill folks. They are just saying that people are having more babies just to find a reason to buy routon.

I dont understand how you can take it to mean that having infertility treatments for those of you in the unfortunate circumstances is somehow wrong!

Brooke Shields is a total pig. With VW having the audacity of chosing her, I chose not to view ads or even think of purchasing a VW.

    What a total crock..

    • November 4th, 2008

    People….People….People…

It’s just a commercial. It’s not that serious. There is nothing serious about it. You normally associate parents with the kids whenever you see a minivan. Meanwhile, you may see a single person driving a SUV, and not even suspect that there are kids in the backseat.

So whatever has happened with the German’s, Brooke’s pregnancy, or the tragedy’s in your own life, it has nothing to do with this commercial.

So relax people it’s just comedy.

These commercials are both ridiculous and insulting to the commitment people make when having children. After watching them I’d rather ride a bicycle than drive a Volkswagen

    • puldoh
    • November 7th, 2008

I hate this commercial, everytime I see it, I get pissed off even more. I can’t have anymore children, I am grateful I was allowed one. This commercial insults people who are pregnant. Your basically saying that German cars are the only reason to have children!

Take these commercials off, you insult everyone who watches them. I am boycotting your German vehicle and tell anyone who is looking for a car, not to buy yours, because this commercial is insulting.

    • December 28th, 2008

Sorry, but I can’t find any humor in this. It is so creepy and reminiscent of Nazi Germany. Dr. Mengela and his experiments, the Arian Race, etc. Who in their right mind would make a connection with reproduction and German Engineering?? Hitler did! Maybe I’m out on a limb here, but this creeps me out, and at best I find it unbelievably insensitive to all those whose lives were “given” for German Engineering!!

All these complaints about the stupidity and insensitivity of the Routan commercials….yet I’m sure most of you all just LOVE the Superbowl commercials…..
